Description
After many years of waiting, Lise Davidsen makes her debut in one of the most demanding roles in the opera world: Isolde in Wagner's masterpiece about love and death.
Volumes have been written about the influential music in Tristan and Isolde. The music is based on the idea of an insatiable longing that can never be fulfilled in this life. The prelude sweeps the listener into an ecstatic but painful world of desire, and the vocal parts are of unique dignity. The opera culminates in Isolde's famous final aria, Mild und leise, with a final octave leap that concludes this unique musical-dramatic journey.
Michael Spyres sings Tristan, while Met music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the orchestra. Yuval Sharon, acclaimed as one of the most visionary directors of our time, makes his debut with a new, innovative production.
