Samson and Delilah returns to The Met with a massive choir and orchestra, as well as some of opera’s most enchanting melodies. This French masterpiece by Saint-Saëns is a feast for both the eyes and the ears.
Saint-Saëns’ spectacular portrayal of the biblical hero of legendary strength and the seductive Philistine whose beauty overwhelms him returns in the Metropolitan’s grand production. Despite a lukewarm reception when it premiered in 1877, Samson and Delilah eventually conquered the opera world and, over the years, has become a sure-fire guarantee of a magnificent evening at the opera.
Giacomo Sagripanti conducts an electrifying ensemble led by the formidable star duo, mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina and tenor Clay Hilley.
