Following her acclaimed performance in Romeo and Juliet, superstar Nadine Sierra takes on yet another seductive French heroine: the irresistible title character, Manon, in Massenet’s passionate drama.
Massenet’s Manon features one of opera’s truly unforgettable, irresistible and archetypal female characters. Although the story is clearly rooted in the class and gender issues of its time, the character of Manon herself is timeless, compelling and familiar.
The opera has been a success ever since its premiere in 1884 and has been performed by a long line of singers who have appreciated its dramatic potential, refined style and captivating music.
Leading tenor Matthew Polenzani plays her idealistic lover, Chevalier des Grieux, and rising star baritone Andrzej Filończyk plays her loyal cousin, Lescaut, in a breathtaking production directed by Laurent Pelly.
