Description

Feel the breath of history in this charming neighbourhood. Karlshamn Museum houses its collections in several of the old buildings in the Cultural Quarter. In the Smith House, named after Otto, the son of the ‘vodka king’ L O Smith, there are exhibitions that reflect the town’s history and industries. Model boats, fishing gear and ship paintings demonstrate the strong connection to the sea. Beautiful ceiling paintings bear witness to the prosperity of the early bourgeoisie.
A special memorial room honours Karlshamn-born Alice Tegnér. Several of the old warehouses in the quarter are also used for the museum’s exhibitions. In the museum courtyard stands the Holländarhuset, the town’s oldest house.
