Description
Haidar Mahdi – Clay and sculptural art:
"I like to work in stoneware clay and build up my motifs based on a feeling or an idea. My ceramic works are often covered with thick flowing glazes and different structures that I create by working with layer upon layer. I let the surfaces vary; sometimes rough and hard, sometimes soft and supple. Shiny smooth surfaces are broken up by bubbles, cracks and cavities. I mix strong expressive colors with the blackest black.
My sculptures move between formal abstract experiments to more organic forms. The inspiration comes from several sources: rococo, kitsch, the plant kingdom and subcultures such as e.g. Black Metal. I let the ceramics meet other genres and materials. In this way, I create stimulating contrasts and unexpected encounters. Methodically and extravagantly, I explore the unexpected paths and see where the process of the material takes me."
Alexander Höglund – Image and video art, installations and performance – Blekingerummet:
"In my artistry I use a variety of techniques, including sound art, 3D animation and performance. I am also one of the co-founders of PLX, an organization that over its 15 years has produced a series of exhibitions, festivals and clubs. PLX is also founder of PLX Tjäröfestivalen.
In my exhibition at Karlshamns Konsthall, I will explore the use of AI technology to create models that generate works of art. These artworks are inspired by Blekinge's rich cultural history, its flora and fauna, and its industrial heritage. I have therefore chosen to call my part of the exhibition the Blekingerummet."
