Discover the fortress island Kastellet
Free boat trip to Kastellet on Saturdays and Sundays during low season.
The boat trip to Kastellet launches this weekend 16-17 May!
Kastellet is an old defensive fortification dating back to the 17th century, when conflicts with Denmark were common. Today, the island is an exciting and easily accessible destination for visitors of all ages. In May, the lilacs also bloom beautifully across the island.
Frisholmen, as Kastellet is also known, began to be built in 1675 when Denmark declared war on Sweden. Kastellet was in use for nearly 200 years, but was, from the outset, rather vulnerable to artillery fire from the surrounding hills on the mainland. Kastellet is a real gem for anyone with a vivid imagination and a childlike sense of wonder.
The island lies in the middle of Karlshamn’s inner harbour, just a five-minute boat ride from the town centre.
On Saturdays and Sundays during low season, trips to Kastellet are free of charge.
