Amidst sacrificial groves, sacrificial bogs and revered banyan trees – a guided tour of Halahult’s sacrificial grove

Do Events Guided tours

A guided tour exploring the sacrificial practices of bygone eras and the belief in the animism of nature.

Description

The tour takes place at the remarkable, unique sacrificial grove in Halahult, a site which nature guide Sofia Jentzsch places within a broader, global context by recounting the fate of sacrificial groves following the arrival of Christianity, discussing sacrificial bogs and offerings, and explaining the ancient worldview on which the sacrificial rituals at these sacred sites are based.

The guide has lived for many years in China amongst the Wa indigenous people, former headhunters, where she witnessed numerous sacrificial rites; she has subsequently worked at Eketorp Castle and guided many tours of Öland’s sacrificial bogs. She shares her experiences amongst the Wa people to link sacrificial practices and nature worship to something universally human that has lived on into our own time.

Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to visit a large flea market and antique barn nearby – a real treasure trove.

Please register your attendance by text message (+46704491987) or email (info@sofiajentzsch.se) by 28 June at the latest; please await confirmation. The guided tour costs 200 SEK per person.
Please note that the tour is in Swedish.
