Discover the fortress island Kastellet located in the middle of Karlshamn's harbor entrance. Free boat trip on Saturdays and Sundays during low season.
Description
The island is a defense facility from the 17th century when Danish feuds were common. Today, Kastellet is an exciting and beautiful destination for visitors of all ages.
Frisholmen, as the Kastellet is also called, were built in 1675 when Denmark declared war on Sweden. The castle was in use for nearly 200 years, but from the very beginning was quite vulnerable to artillery from the surrounding rock outcrops on land. The castle is a real gem for anyone who has imagination and a child's mind intact.
Saturdays and Sundays during low season (22 August to 11 September) the boat trip to Kastellet is free of charge. The Waffle Cafe is open for visitors. For current timetable, see link.
Monday to Friday during low season you can also go to Kastellet at 13:30 (return home 15:50, see second link). Please note that this tour is not free of charge. During weekdays, the Waffle Cafe is not open, so bring a picnic basket.
The boat trip to Kastellet takes only 5 minutes.
